Yard Update

The weather here has been gorgeous lately... Last week, it got HOT! Thankfully, it cooled down this week and has been in the mid 70s. Perfect if you ask me :) We have been spending more time out in the yard lately... and I'm loving it! We planted a bunch of full sun perennials and hope to bring more color to our front yard. We got a couple peonies, different types of ground cover, and several different plants. We have also planted corn, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. I'm crossing my fingers for a successful crop this year! Our bathroom light fixture came in the other day, but we have yet to install it. I am excited for it. It should be a lot better than the gold fixture that is in there now. We also purchased some white 'bamboo' blinds for the front porch. We don't have the best view and have very little privacy, so hopefully these will help both of those problems so that we can enjoy our front porch more often. School is out soon, so I am looki...

Update with Pictures

Work around here has slowed down... We have taken time off to enjoy this: We have been having so much fun driving around with the top down... Enjoying the beautiful weather. But, here are some of the updates we have finished: We moved our mattress upstairs to the 'office'. We now have two spare queens and a spare king bed for guests! The blue room upstairs got some different furniture. A close up of the finished floors :) The new bathroom vanity, sink top and faucet. *LOVE* We painted the sitting room, installed a couple of schoolhouse fixtures, refinished floors and the trim. We still need to paint the ceiling and install crown. Finally got the MJ albums back up! New light fixture :) We purchased the same one but in chrome for the bathroom... It will hopefully be delivered soon! Thomas' office upstairs has become a truly functional space for him. And that is it for now... We have been tending to the yard and I am ...

Finishing Projects

We have finished up several projects around the house lately. We installed the new vanity in the bathroom, finished the headboard on the bed, completed our armoires, and have been installing new light fixtures. We finally got tired of the disaster that our house was and started tidying... But we still have a ways to go. There are three doors waiting to be stripped and painted. The weather has been changing and we are starting to transition to the outside, but it feels great to have several projects finished. I am hoping to convince Thomas to tear up the kitchen floor this summer. We are hoping the floor under the linoleum is in good enough shape to be sanded and stained to match the rest of the floors. Before we do that, I want to paint the walls. Our (eventual) plans for the kitchen: -Paint walls -Install new counters (butcher block) -Install apron front sink and new vintage style faucet -Rip up linoleum -Refinish floors -Strip woodwork and repaint -Repaint banquet to match...

Floors and Painting

This weekend was busy. We started Friday after work with prepping for the floor sander. We stripped the floor in the closet and finished painting the walls. We were able to refinish the floors in three rooms this weekend; the bathroom, blue room upstairs and the bedroom attached to the bathroom. I stripped down all the trim in the room attached to the bathroom. It will be a sitting room. The woodwork took a lot of time... We stripped it down with the heat gun, sanded and then painted. I am so glad to be done with the thrim! Partial trim stripped. The trim had several layers of flaky paint. We chose Sherwin William's Studio Blue Green for the walls in this room. It really pops against the white trim.  We plan on painting the ceiling, putting in crown and getting a new light fixture for this room. Below the toilet, there was plywood. We bought some clear fir to match up with the existing wood in the bathroom.  Couver wa...

House Chaos

We have been crazy busy lately, so I really need to catch up some pictures... But I'm at work, so those will have to wait. We are still working on the bed. Thomas has the frame put together for the the headboard and will be doing the finishing work on it this weekend. I am excited to get it in the bedroom. It will provide a ton more storage and look nice :) We took the furniture out of the 'dressing room' and used adhesive stripper on the floors to get the sticky black tar adhesive up. I stripped all of the woodwork in there to create a clean surface to paint on. It was a LOT of work, but will be worth it to have clean looking trim. The previous owners had painted layer upon layer and there were drips and screw holes everywhere from window treatments. They had also painted the baseboards up to the carpet, so there was gross carpet in the paint. We will also be painting the walls and ceiling in that room. We chose Sherwin William's Studio Blue Green for that room and...

Finished Floors and More Storage!

We finished up the floors in our bedroom, laundry area and upstairs landing. It feels so good to have finished floors in our house. They are beautiful and I love them! We used MinWax's Dark Walnut stain. The floors downstairs (laundry area and the bedroom) are clear fir. I don't believe they have ever been finished, but look great. The upstairs landing. These floors were covered in a black adhesive. We stripped them, sanded, stained and did three coats of poly. Finished floors + gallery wall = LOVE Laundry area... Same thing, these have never been finished. We painted the bedroom and we are working on a bed for the room.  This is the bed before the drawers were built.  There are three drawers on each side. All of the space under the bed is usable :) We plan on building the headboard and footboard. The headboard will have more storage. An upstairs bedroom. It used to be the dog room, and we finished it so Thomas could use it as a...
We have been very busy around here lately... The house is a disaster, everything is covered in dust and we cannot wait to be finished with the projects we are working on. We have been making a storage bed for our bedroom. Because our room is so small, this bed will allow us to store all of our clothes in our room when before we had to store them in armoires in another room. We also decided to refinish the bedroom floors ourselves. We expected this to be an easy job, but boy were we wrong. We brought home the sander and realized pretty quickly that we would have to strip the floors with a chemical stripper before we could sand. We stripped the floor, used mineral spirits to clean it and then sanded. After we sanded, we used mineral spirits again and stained it using Minwax's Dark Walnut. We are currently applying the poly top coat. Here is a picture of the floor after most of it had been stripped. These floors are in the worst condition out of all the flooring in the house....
